Article Abstract:

Maori tribes in New Zealand are claiming much of the countries gold reserves under the Treaty of Waitangi. The Waitangi Tribunal, which process claims for compensation, has seen 720 claim so far. The succeeding governments will have to deal with other claims such as the right to hunt wales, dog licensing, land compensations, mineral and other resource rights in Hauraki, and control of water, beaches, and mountains.

Running concern

Article Abstract:

New Zealander Jonah Lomu is the highest paid player in rugby union, but kidney disease, divorce, and his business threaten to end his career. At the start of the 1999 season he reported to a fitness-testing camp too overweight to pass the running test and was dropped from the team. His agent and business partner, Phil Kingsley-Jones, has cleared Lomu's schedule to concentrate on rugby.

Shop till they drop

Article Abstract:

Retail firm Westfield Holdings is following a major expansion strategy in New Zealand, building new shopping malls and refurbishing existing ones. Only 15% of New Zealand retail space is taken up by malls, and Westfield believes New Zealand will increasingly move towards shopping in malls.
