Coke puts Pepsi on defensive in France

Article Abstract:

Coca-Cola Co (Atlanta, GA) has put PepsiCo on the defensive after the Competition Council in Paris, France, made a move to review a new proposal by Coke to acquire Orangina, a softdrink outlet owned by Pernod-Ricard. In 1998, PepsiCo blocked the purchase of Orangina, which markets Pepsi products in France, by declaring that the deal would stifle competition. The Competition Council has been given until Dec 14, 1999, to come up with a recommendation for the French Finance Ministry.
