Foreign telco rules expected to change

Article Abstract:

AT&T Canada Inc vice-chmn and CEO James Meenan has predicted that the foreign ownership rules covering the telecommunications industry will be overhauled in 2001 after the completion of the next round of world trade negotiations. Presently, the rules stipulate that foreign firms cannot own more than one-third of the voting shares of Canadian telecommunications firms. Relaxation of this rule is expected to result in greater inflow of foreign capital.
