Compaq Canada climbs the training wall

Article Abstract:

Compaq Canada Inc's 10 financial managers spent a day at the Above & Beyond: The Centre for Adventurous Learning doing high-octane activities aimed to highlight the kinds of communication problems in the workplace and show the need for leadership in every organization. The centre designed a team-building program that combines personality and skills profiling with wilderness activities, such as traversing a 12.1-meter toxic river and scaling a 10.6-meter-high rock wall.

Small square hole a versatile performer

More branded notebook and laptop computers are featuring Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports to enable easy connection of peripheral devices into computers. There are now over 100 peripheral devices with USB support, according to the USB Implementators' Forum. USB usage surged in 1998 when Microsoft introduced Windows 98, which has a built-in ability to run USB ports unlike its predecessors.

Small business shying away from training

The Canadian Federation of Independent Business has released a new survey that shows small businesses in Canada do not offer adequate employee job training. The survey also found that employers are hiring under-qualified workers.
