Compaq's revenue and income fall; less demand abroad combined with price pressures in U.S

Article Abstract:

Compaq Computer Corp.'s second-quarter earnings and sales were disappointing but matched Wall Street expectations. Earnings were down to $67 million, compared to the results of the comparable 2000 quarter which were $363 million. Revenue was also down to $8.5 billion in the second quarter compared to last year's total of $10.1 billion. The results were blamed on diminished PC demand worldwide and industry pricing battles.
