DeVille driven to capture bigger share of limo market

Article Abstract:

Cadillac has introduced its flagship DeVille model which is intended as the firm's reentry into the limousine market. The DeVille was redesigned to be converted into a 10-foot stretch limousine. While annual limousine sales are very small industrywide, they are important prestige symbols which affect the sales of an automaker's other product lines. To ensure its appeal in the limousine market, Cadillac has added a more spacious trunk, infrared night vision and a Northstar engine.

Lincoln's Blackwood luxury pickup, which will be unveiled on Dec 29, 1998, at the Greater Los Angeles Auto Show, is part of the company's effort to eliminate its image as an automaker to the elderly. The Blackwood concept vehicle, claimed as the 'ultimate utility vehicle,' features a 4-ft, shining stainless-steel bed. The luxury pickup is a natural extension of Lincoln's famous and money-making Navigator luxury sport-utility vehicle.
