Death watch

Article Abstract:

Agents of the Australian Secret Intelligence Service (ASIS) were unable to pick up any first-hand information about the planned jihadi suicide bombings in Bali, Indonesia on October 1, 2005, despite strong rumors among the locals of an imminent attack by fundamentalists. A senior ASIS officer reveals how poor management, an increasingly politicized environment, bad recruiting, lack of field experience and appalling retention rates are diminishing Australia's capacity to infiltrate radical Islamic militant groups that are killing Australians overseas.

See no evil

Article Abstract:

The Federal government revealed that it had no knowledge of allegations that coalition forces had tortured Iraqi prisoners of war, even though a major report detailing abuses was made public. It further maintained that it was unaware of serious concerns expressed by the International Committee for the Red Cross to the coalition forces about the torture of Iraqi prisoners, until an official ICRC report issue became public.

Target Australia

Article Abstract:

London has the world's best intelligence systems and yet it failed to prevent the terrorist attacks of July 7, 2005. Australia is also equally vulnerable to terrorist attacks and its public buildings, like the Opera House and the Hill were designed without the threat of terrorism in mind, the same being true for the public transport systems in the country.
