Article Abstract:

Dr. Geoffrey Edelsten is one of a number of Australian physicians who has lost his license to practice medicine but is petitioning to have it restored. Edelsten was convicted in 1992 of hiring a hitman to assault an unsatisfied client. Other physicians have been accused of inappropriate sexual conduct, abusing drugs, and falsifying records. Edelsten's defenders claim doctors who have committed worse crimes have had licenses reinstated. Edelsten's appeal was dismissed by the Medical Practitioners Board of Victoria but he has petitioned the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal. Edelsten owned a lucrative chain of 24-hour medical clinics.
