Diversification of the metazoa: Ediacarans, colonies, and the origin of eumetazoan complexity by nested modularity

Article Abstract:

The Ediacaran biota is comprised of a broad paraphyletic level of organization which encompasses the stem groups and several crown groups of the Bilateria, Cnidaria, Ctenophora and Porifera. Edicaran colonial forms in the Cambrian are sufficiently complex to warrant study as ancestors of basal metazoan taxa.

Traces of naticid predation on the Gryphaeid Oyster Pycnodonte dissimilaris: epifaunal drilling of prey in the Paleocene

Article Abstract:

A study of naticid gastropods drilling predation on oyster shells is studied. The results obtained show that some of the preys were too large to be manipulated and hence drilled epifaunally and this ritual of drilling is a plesiomorphic and opportunistic mode of behavior in the evolution of Naticidae.
