Dollar sprints to highest level in five years

The World Health Organization has lifted its travel warning for SARS, severe acute respiratory syndrome, on Toronto, Ontario. The decision by WHO contributed to a rise in the Canadian dollar, or loonie, which reached 69.76 cents (U.S.), as global investors withdrew from American investments.

Dollar barrels past 74-cent mark

Article Abstract:

The rapid rise of the Canadian dollar was undermined by the discovery of a single case of mad cow disease, or b ovine spongiform encephalopathy . The dollar, which rose to 74.04 cents, increase sharply as global investors sold the U.S. dollar.

Dollar rocked by SARS fears

Article Abstract:

A report from the World Health Organization that warned travelers over the risk of SARS in Toronto, Ontario has helped to drive the Canadian dollar lower. Industry analysts said that the loonie has risen 8% against the U.S. dollar in 2003.
