Cash-burning dot-coms sell at fire-sale prices

Article Abstract:

Internet companies are being sold at bargain prices. APB-news.com, the award-winning crime news site, placed itself on the auction block with a minimum bid of $950,000 but there were no takers. The shakeout in the industry is attributed to intense competition, lack of funding and the slow down of financial support from venture capital companies. Predatory bargain hunters are buying the troubled Internet companies with very low buyout bids.

Survival of small ISPs challenged

Article Abstract:

The existence of small Internet service providers (ISPs) is being threatened by risks such as costly operations and the lack of payoff. Their heavy reliance on advertisers and the fact that only about half of their registered users are using their advertising services make free subscription a risky venture. Thus, ISPs are looking for new sources of revenue in addition to advertising.
