Electric cars: will American consumers buy them?

Article Abstract:

Attempts to curb air pollution and US dependance on foreign oil are pressuring US automakers to produce cleaner automobiles. California has given them a more realistic incentive with a law requiring 10% of new cars sold in the state to be emission free by the year 2003. Electric autos will have to compete with cars that run on alternative fuels such as methanol and natural gas and are able to provide greater performance at lower costs. It is likely that the government will be the biggest purchaser of electric autos when they do hit the market. It is harder to predict how the public will respond.

Advances since the 1970s

Article Abstract:

Research into the causes and cure for Alzheimer's disease advanced in the 1970s with the discovery of less than normal amounts of acetylcholine in the brains of victims. The chemical is an essential element in memory work and learning. With life expectancy rates going up, the incidence of the disease is expected to rise proportionately. This fact has compelled private individuals to band together to fight the disease. Government support in terms of federal funding and regulation came in later.

National parks: the issues

Article Abstract:

The US has gathered all its parks under the National Park system, but the system's growth has been hampered by over crowding, pollution, littering, crime, poor maintenance and a lack of forest officers. The National Park system blames Congress for the lack of funds to deal with its problems. The parks should increase their collection from the public and the government to ensure their maintenance.
