Electric shock treatment

Article Abstract:

Competition in New South Wales, Victoria and the Australian Capital Territory will create a $23 bil energy market with 30 companies generating electricity or gas. It will probably also create a utilities index on the Australian Stock Exchange. Researchers are uncertain about how a national energy market will work in practice and if it will give prospective investors a reason to worry about the effects of privatization.

Singapore's Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew feels leaders should be more feared than loved. Lee founded the state of Singapore in 1965 and continues as its leader, despite controversy over the unflattering portrayal of neighboring Malaysia in Lee's newly-published memoirs. Lee believes technology has globalized markets and countries that join this trend will help their economies move forward.

Imagining technology

Article Abstract:

Australian researcher Donald Martin has developed a special liquid crystal display panel for televisions and computer screens that will provide three-dimensional images without the need for special glasses. According to some analysts, the market for such technology in the movie industry alone is worth $1 bil. US and Japanese corporations have been contacting Martin to buy his company.
