Hackers are launching `denial of service' attacks on web sites, inconveniencing millions of consumers and frustrating companies. In response to the brazen attacks, the government has launched a manhunt for hackers responsible for shutting down web sites. However, authorities agreed that the perpetrators of such attacks may be difficult to track down.

A great divide in stocks: tech firms rise above rate hikes

Article Abstract:

Rising interest rates and the likelihood of more interest rate increases by the Federal Reserve System appear to be having little effect on the high technology sector whose stocks continue to appreciate in value. Many high technology companies have continued to be insulated from rate increases because of a strong demand for technology products, little debt, and reliance on alternate forms of financing,such as convertible debt. However, industry observers believe that this could change if interest rates jump high enough.

Excite@Home after revenue: company will announce a new stock offering

Redwood City, CA-based Excite@Home will announce the creation of a new stock offering that will separate its Internet portal, advertising and content operations from its cable modem subscription services. The company offers high-speed Internet services through cable television lines. The tracking stock allows the company to maintain hold even with a possible IPO and helps it generate revenue from its Internet portal business.
