First central lab for Linux research planned

Article Abstract:

IBM, Intel and Hewlett-Packard are among the contributors to the Open Source Development Lab in Portland for the testing of new versions and applications of the Linux operating system. The lab, which will be open by the end of the year, with future satellite operations will give Linux programmers access to hardware needed to experiment with new programs. Linux's share of the operating system market is 24% and growing. Microsoft has 38%.

SBC to Start Project to Send TV Over Lines

Verizon to Halt Pension Outlay For Managers

Telecommunications giant Verizon Communications, announced that it will change the pension benefits of its managers. By increasing 401 (k) plans, and freezing the guaranteed pension plan, the company believes it can save $3 billion over the next ten years.
