Fly eye on the prize

Article Abstract:

Unusual ridged patterns on the surface of a prehistoric fly's eye has led Australia's Dr. Andrew Parker and other colleagues to believe the design may have important practical applications. The ridged pattern and principle of the application may assist the military in anti-reflecting stealth technology, improve the efficiency of photovoltaic cells used in solar power, have applications for night-vision or aid in reducing glare. Parker claims most of man's design challenges have been answered in nature.

Rock of images

Article Abstract:

Rock-art discoveries on the island of Dauan, Australia's northernmost landfall viewed using digital cameras and image-enhancing computer technology, help to unlock hidden gaps in the study of Australia's ancient cultures. More discoveries are achieved in mainland Australia from the Victoria River region and Cape York that will lead to a completely new realm on ancient art being uncovered in coming years.
