Michael Otto is being investigated by the Securities and Exchange Commission for failing to disclose the Spiegel Inc.'s financial records in the few years leading up to its bankruptcy; he insists that he had the best interests of the company in mind as the secrecy was maintained in order to protect the company from further losses.
