Let the game wars begin: Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft want to take gaming into the mainstream, and they'll fight it out along the way

Article Abstract:

The competition among makers of computer and video game systems will become fierce with the introduction of new systems by Microsoft and Nintendo. Sony introduced its PlayStation 2 in Nov. 2000 and soon after Microsoft detailed its planned Xbox. Now Nintendo has entered the market with its GameCube, to be introduced at the May 2001 Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles, CA. All three systems will battle it out for market share when they are all available to consumers in the Fall of 2001. Unable to battle the competition, pioneer Sega Enterprises has stopped producing its Dreamcast console.

Can XBox electrify Microsoft suppliers?

Article Abstract:

Analysts are also expecting Xbox to add about $150 million a quarter to the revenues of Flextronics, which manufactures the XBox and other products for Microsoft and firms like Cisco Systems and Lucent Technologies.
