Article Abstract:

Elementary schools in Windham, Connecticut, feature bilingual curriculum, and all students in the bilingual program are expected to be able to learn in both English and Spanish by the end of second grade. Teachers and administrators pair native English speakers with native Spanish speakers so aid the process. Proponents of the program say that it helps prepare the next generation for the global economy.

These farmers help troubled kids grow

Article Abstract:

A rural Clinton County, IA, couple in their sixties suffered financially during the 1980s and began offering horseback trail rides as a means of making ends meet. Troubled children taking the rides sparked the interest of the Novaks, and a mutually rewarding relationship was formed.

'We've got these kids all fired up.' (successful students at Yselta High School, El Paso, Texas)

Article Abstract:

Five students from Yselta High School were accepted at Massachusetts Institute of Technology as freshmen in the 1992-93 school year. The small high school lacks many materials but uses innovative methods to teach students. Teacher and parental support also helps students learn.
