Ford puts hybrid Explorer on '05 map

Article Abstract:

A gas-electric hybrid version of the Ford Explorer, an entry-level sports sedan called the 2-Series from BMW and Volkswagen's Microbus were some of the concept cars unveiled during the 2001 North American International Auto Show held in Detroit, MI. Ford may start selling the hybrid Explorer by 2005, which produces 27 mpg in combined city-highway driving. On the other hand, BMW will start selling the 2-Series as a 2004 model in Europe, and later in the US. The 2-Series intends to recapture the appeal of BMW's 2002 sports car, which the company sold from 1968 through 1976.

Article Abstract:

A Cadillac luxury crewcab pickup, a Lexus convertible and a Dodge Viper roadster were some of the new models unveiled at the 2001 North American International Auto Show held in Detroit, MI. The Cadillac crewcab to be called the Escalade EXT would be positioned against the Lincoln Blackwood. It would have an open pick-up style backend a mid-gate between the cargo bed and the rear seat. On the other hand, the Lexus SC 430 convertible is powered by a 300-hp, aluminum double-overhead cam V-8 engine.

Ford tests gadgets to distraction

Article Abstract:

Automobile manufacturers are installing more electronic gadgets inside cars and trucks as younger buyeres demand mobile Internet connections. Ford Motor has invested $10 millon on a driving-simulator laboratory to examine the safest ways to deliver information. General Motors is expected to launch the top-end versions of its OnStar system which will enable motorists to bank, shop and handle other transactions while underway.
