Franchise firm looks for brains

Article Abstract:

Village Ventures is venture capital firm formed by Tripod founder Bo Peabody that is designed to operate as a franchise. According to Peabody, in 1999, 77% of venture capital funds made their way to regions occupied by only 17% of the US population. Their plan is to establish small, intial-state venture funds with $10 million each in locations with high intellectual capital but with little access to the major venture capital firms.

Miller's new CEO puts 'uninspired' ads on hit list

Article Abstract:

Miller Brewing Co's new CEO John Bowlin discontinued the company's recent advertising campaign because it did not attract its target market and it annoyed some wholesalers. Bowlin, who replaced CEO Jack MacDonough, announced that two of the company's seven new commercials are ready for use in time for the crucial summer selling season. On Apr 7, 1999, the top management of Miller Brewing was purged by Philip Morris.

Celebrity helps sell Mass Mutual ads

Article Abstract:

Mass Mutual decided to enlist a celebrity endorser to help its ads get noticed. John Mahoney, who plays Martin Crane in the TV sitcom Frasier, stars in a series of commercials where he appears as a likeable fellow who does not worry about his finances because his money is with Mass Mutual. The ads were found to be `likeable' by 16% of consumers surveyed by Ad Track, USA Today's exclusive weekly poll.
