Verisign acquiring Network Solutions

Article Abstract:

Network Solutions has been acquired by VeriSign for $17 billion in stock in what is second-largest acquisition in the technology sector and the largest Internet deal. Network Solutions is the leading registrar of Internet domain names while VeriSign is the leading manufacturer of encryption software. Since both firms have also been expanding their Internet products and services, the deal will create a juggernaut offering electronic commerce services.

Net companies look to foreign partners

Article Abstract:

Terra Networks, a Madrid, Spain-based Internet firm, has entered into negotiations for the possible acquisition of Lycos Inc, a leading online search engine in the United States. The proposed stock swap agreement, valued at $10 billion, will see Terra exchanging more than 1.5 of its stock for each Lycos share. If the agreement pushes through, Terra will gain a large presence in the United States and strengthen its market base in Europe.

Terra, Lycos to merge in $12.5B deal

Article Abstract:

Terra Networks, the number 2 Internet service provider in Europe, has agreed to buy Lycos for $12.5 billion, or $97.55 a share. The new firm, Terra Lycos, will have combined revenues of $500 million, 50 million unique visitors and operations in 37 countries. The company will also be sitting on a cash reserve of $3.5 billion, an unlikely situation for many Internet firms today.
