GDP expands at solid annual rate of 4.3%: Fuels case for Bank of Canada to raise rates next week

Article Abstract:

The economy of U.S. expanded at an annual rate of 4.3 percent in the second quarter of 2004, as exports increased, fuelling the case for a Bank of Canada interest rate increase in the second week of September 2004. Eric Lascelles, economist with Toronto-Dominion Bank states that the report, estimating the statistics, painted a picture of robust economic growth and provided signals of solid gains.

Rates expected to hold firm

Article Abstract:

The Bank of Canada is expected to maintain interest rates at their current level, although the bank is expected to raise rates in April 2003. The Bank of Canada is pondering the trends of slowing economic growth and rising inflation.

Bank signals rates may hold

Article Abstract:

Bank of Canada has sent signals that it may maintain current interest rates for much of the 2003 year. The bank did not change its benchmark rate due to a fall in inflation and weakness in economic conditions worldwide.
