Garbage crisis

Article Abstract:

The garbage problem is a result of too much trash and not enough spaces to dispose of it. The three main issues central to this problem are recycling, choosing sites for incinerators and landfills and transporting trash to other states. The demand for and supply of recycled products are still unpredictable. On the other hand, incinerators and landfills emit toxic waste to the air and water. Transporting trash to other states creates political problems since most states are opposed to becoming waste disposal sites.

The reign of oil

Article Abstract:

The 1970s witnessed an international effort to search for alternative energy sources. Prior to that period, oil and other fossil fuels were relatively cheap and abundant. The ensuing high prices were attributed to the depletion of oil reserves brought about by a slackening of exploratory activities because of existing oil supply adequacy. In the 1990s, prices have run a contrary downtrend. The oil price mechanism, however, is cyclic. Thus, policymakers can almost expect another round of increases in the future.

Bush's energy strategy

Article Abstract:

Pres George Bush's administration began in the midst of another oil crisis brought about by the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. Prices catapulted to new high levels. Furthermore, concern over environmental hazards caused by the burning of fossil fuels aggravated the energy problem. Thus, Bush drew up his national energy plan which aimed to increase domestic petroleum production, ease regulations on access to gas pipelines and construction of nuclear power plants.
