British Columbia's new anti-smoking legislation, which has been imposed by the Worker's Compensation Board, is viewed as the toughest in Canada. The regulations, which went into effect in January 2000 to protect workers from second-hand smoke, prohibit smoking in in every workplace site in the province.

Truce forged in B.C. war of woods

The Sierra Club and other environmental protection organizations have reached an agreement with logging firms in British Columbia to protect the region's Great Bear Rainforest. The pact includes particiapation by Weyerhaeuser Company Ltd., which is the leading forest company in the province.
