Writer Charles Higham is best known for his biographies of Hollywood stars like Katherine Hepburn, Errol Flynn and Orson Welles, but in 1995, at the age of 64, he began a successful career as a playwright. He was a film and book critic for the Sydney Morning Herald before being offered the Regent's Professorship at the University of California at Santa Cruz.
