Greyhound back in gear

Article Abstract:

Greyhound Pioneer may be emerging from the many difficulties since its formation in 1992. Finance director Trenton Clark and chief executive officer Stephen Jones have plans for the company to recover from accumulated losses, Australian Securities Commission charges against former directors, labor disputes, and broken lending agreements. Clark and Jones have paid off old debt, reduced workforce and fleet vehicle makes, dropped unprofitable routes, and upgraded buses.

Subtracting the new math: California chooses a back-to-basics approach

Article Abstract:

The California Board of Education responded to parents concerns about their childrens' education by voting to restore traditional standards in mathematics. So-called new math focuses on concepts and problem-solving strategies, while traditional math emphasizes computation. The decision was a result of an independent commission's study that found a blend of new math with a foundation of basics was the best solution.

Back to the streets of Hue

Article Abstract:

Veterans who fought against communism in Hue, Vietnam during the Tet Offensive revisited the site where they lost hundreds of their fellow soldiers. In 1968, 2,500 Marine Corps soldiers fought against 10,000 North Vietnamese and Viet Cong guerrilla fighters. These Marines were underprepared, lacked basic necessities, and the US intelligence miscalculated the number of Vietnamese forces.
