Hackers hit eBay, Buy.com, Amazon
Article Abstract:
The most popular commercial Web sites in the US were attacked by hackers, a day after a similar scenario happened to the Yahoo site. The sites, namely eBay, Buy.com and Amazon.com were overloaded with junk data, bringing the Internet operations to a halt. The events, according to Richard Power of San Francisco, CA's Computer Security Institute, indicate that all Web sites are at risk with hackers.

Heavy traffic on a Web site can trigger a crash
Article Abstract:
Web site outages can become prevalent as Internet traffic surge at an alarming rate. Web site crashes are sometimes due to the lack of servers to accommodate an undetermined number of online shoppers. Another problem Web sites can encounter is if the database and ordering systems are not scaled for heavy traffic. E-commerce sites also face troubles when untested software and applications are not prepared for a huge number of users.
