Home mortgage foreclosures up and expected to rise

Article Abstract:

Mortgage Information reported that the number of home mortgage foreclosures rose by 9% to 142,000 during 1st qtr 2001. The rise is notable since mortgages usually have lower default rates than other loans. Moreover, homeowners give priority to their mortgages over other bills during hard times. Industry observers say foreclosures will continue to growdue to higher delinquency rates in 2000. Mortgage Information also said that loans originated in 2000 are going bad sooner than loans made in previous years.

Low term life insurance rates hear death knell

Article Abstract:

Term life insurance premiums are estimated to surge while long-term premium guarantees could disappear on Jan 1, 2000, as a result of a newly- adopted rule in around 30 US states. With the new rule, insurers will be required to increase the amount allocated for claims on policies with longterm guarantees. Insured people living outside the states where the rule will be implemented might also be affected since insurance companies will likely impose the changes company-wide.
