Hortons to build bakery

Article Abstract:

Tim Hortons, a doughnut chain in Canada that is expanding its product mix, is building a bakery in southwestern Ontario. The goal is to surpass McDonald's Restaurants of Canada Ltd as the number one fast-food chain in Canada. Currently, Tim Hortons has 1,900 outlets in Canada and 120 in the US and had sales of about $2 bil in 2000, which the company says puts it in a strong number two position in Canada. Some 300 upscale bakery products will be added to the chain's current offering of meal products such as soups and sandwiches. Tim Hortons currently holds 50% of the restaurant market in Canada for bagels.
