Identity crisis: John Howard is floating the ID card he helped sink 18 years ago

Article Abstract:

John Howard opposed to the introduction of a new Australian identification card in 1987 when he led the party that ran off the Hawke government proclaiming it an intrusion into citizen's private lives, an unreasonable financial impost on a small business that was designed to root out tax and welfare fraud. However, of late he seems to support the idea of implementation of ID card for security reasons and addressing immigration issues.

The kamikaze kid

Article Abstract:

Australian Labor Party (ALP) leader Mark Latham presents 'The Latham Diaries' as an open, honest account of his political career and his reasons for quitting the leadership of the ALP. The diaries betray much about the Labor Party, but they also reveal Latham as a self-absorbed, near-paranoid hypocrite whose controversial book affected many who helped him along in his career.
