In his own defence: Paul Bernardo admits he raped, but insists he did not kill

Article Abstract:

Bernardo took the stand Aug 15, 1995, and admitted that he kidnapped and sexually assaulted two teenager girls Leslie Mahaffy and Kristen French. But, he claimed both died accidently, while he was out of the room. The jury is likely to reach a decision by Sep 1995.

A tenacious defender

The Canadian Broadcasting Corp (CBC) filed a petition to be allowed to television Bernardo's murder trial. There is intense interest in the case in Canada, but television coverage is not usually allowed. Bernardo's lawyers support the CBC's petition.
