Intel exec: Microsoft threats were felt

Article Abstract:

Intel Vice President Stephen McGeady was the first to testify in the antitrust trial on the concrete harm done to consumers as a result of the actions taken by Microsoft against its rivals. He said the firm was threatened by Microsoft against developing its own software and supporting Microsoft competitors. McGeady said the move delayed the onset of videoconferencing, enhanced video and sound and stable Internet transactions on PCs. He said that during an August 1995 meeting Microsoft made it certain it would reject Intel's MMX multimedia chip if Intel would pursue software-development.

FTC might drop antitrust probe of Intel

Article Abstract:

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is set to drop its anti-trust investigation of computer chip giant Intel Corp. Central to the probe is the allegation that Intel withheld access to its chip technology that would allow competitors to develop accessory products such as chip sets. However, Intel has recently made moves to license its "P6 bus" technology to several rival companies.
