Investors seek cure for Net blues in biotechs

Article Abstract:

Past losses on Internet stocks have driven investors to the promise of biotechnology. Recent news of advances in the search for a cure for the AIDS virus has helped trigger a deluge of new investments into the sector. Some of the beneficiaries of the trend include Protein Design Labs, Human Genome Sciences, Organogenesis and Millennium Pharmaceuticals. As of Feb 17, 2000, the American Stock Exchange biotech index has already recorded a 232% gain for the past year.

Amazon shares still shaky despite backers

Article Abstract:

The defense offered by stock analysts on the sharp price decline of Amazon.com did little to uplift investor confidence in the online firm. Amazon's share prices plummeted by 19% on June 22 and later increased by less than 1% to $33.94. Stocks of online firms have also fallen despite the strong surge of technology stocks and the broader indexes. Analysts who supported Amazon said the firm expects substantial advertising deals and that its long-term prospects remain positive.
