JUSTICES, IN A 5-TO-4 DECISION, BACK CAMPAIGN FINANCE LAW THAT CURBS CONTRIBUTIONS

Article Abstract:

An unlikely alliance of political and social groups and organizations lost their bid to have the US Supreme Court overturn the Bipartisan Campaign Finance Reform Act of 2002. The Natioanal Rifle Association, American Civil Liberties Union, Republican National Committee, and the AFL-CIO were among those who opposed the law based on First Amendment Rights. Justices Sandra Day O'Connor and John Paul Stevens provided the principal opinion.
