Job market rockets higher: surge dampens expectations of interest rate cut

Article Abstract:

Canada's job environment has added 54,000 jobs, with the unemployment rate falling to 7.5%, down 0.1 percentage point from October 2003, thus dampening any expectations that Bank of Canada might cut interest rates soon. Canadian employers continue to ratchet up their payrolls, hoping to take advantage of a near-term growth surge on both sides of the border.

Panel advises teaching kids business basics

Article Abstract:

The Canadian Association of University Teachers has been critical of a report from a federal advisory panel that supports a more active role for business in the country's public school system. The report, which recommends that elementary school children be taught the basic principles of business, was presented to the Industry Ministry.

At a Conference Board of Canada seminar, author and business consultant Curt Coffman stressed the importance of a positive managerial approach when dealing with employees. While people are often attracted to a company because of salary amounts or perks, Mr. Coffman says far too many leave because of a supervisor or manager.
