Judging the case

Article Abstract:

US Secretary of State Colin Powell presented a barrage of evidence that Iraq has ties to terrorists and that Saddam Hussein must be ousted in seeking United Nations support for US-led military action against Hussein and Iraq. Powell faced intense anti-war sentiment led by France. One aspect of his seventy-five minute presentation to the UN that weakens the US argument about Hussein and Iraq is the contention that Iraq has terrorist ties, as evidence is not watertight.

Iraq has become the biggest personal and professional crisis in the career of the United Nations' mild -mannered secretary-general Kofi Annan. In a speech to the General Assembly in Manhattan in October 2003, Annan called George W. Bush's policy of pre-emptive strikes as a threat to 'world peace and stability'.

Article Abstract:

The only person who could slow the drive to war in Iraq is UK Prime Minister Tony Blair. Last week, Blair said he favored giving UN arms inspectors more "time and space" in Iraq. He is under intense political pressure in his own country as antiwar sentiment in the UK rises sharply.
