The Tribune Co. is buying the Times Mirror Co. for $6.45 bil. The merger would bring together newspaper, TV, radio, and Web operations in 5 high-population states: Califronia, New York, Illinois and Florida. Advertisers will look favorably on the combined Tribune/Times Mirror operation's extensive reach to consumers in these markets.

Latest Omnicom acquisition shows continuing interest in shops with nontraditional specialties

Article Abstract:

Omnicom Group has purchased New York City-based Arnell Group ad agency and its sister agencies Cultura and PASS Marketing. Omnicom, one of the largest agency companies, has been interested in acquiring shops that specialize in areas other than that of traditional advertising. Arnell, PASS and Cultura offer services such as interactive campaigns, music videos, graphic design, promotion creation, entertainment marketing and target campaigns aimed at youth, gays, black and Latino consumers.
