A way to talk on a cell phone without a word being spoken

Article Abstract:

Bell Labs and Lucent Technologies have made available their land line TTY service for hearing and/or speech impaired cell phone users. The problem with doing this earlier was that cell phones didn't offer the same range and accuracy of tone frequencies that land phones do. The service is free. It requires special keyboard and a phone that accepts a connection to the key board. Callers can also phone operators that transcribe calls to TTY. Nokia will offer TTY service over CDMA cellular networks later this year.

Article Abstract:

AT and T Wireless and other wireless services companies are now offering a fixed-wireless technology to customers looking for a new way to get high-speed Internet service which does not involve a digital subscriber line or cable modem. AT and T's service, which costs $40 a month, works via a roof antenna on the customer's house which is connected by wire to a PC modem. The antenna is connected by radio waves to the provider's antennas and then to its main switching station.
