Keeping the ship afloat: a 1912 disaster at sea fuels a pop culture phenomenon

Article Abstract:

The Titanic sunk 85 years ago, yet the disaster still seems to fascinate people. The Titanic tragedy has been portrayed in TV movies, documentaries, a Broadway musical, countless books and now the new film 'Titanic.' Part of its appeal may be do to the mythic struggle between humans and nature.

Jacques Villeneuve edged out fellow Canadian Scott Goodyear to win the 1995 Indianapolis 500 auto race, thereby becoming the first man from north of the border to win the prestigious Indy car race. Villeneuve is the son of the late Formula One driver Gilles Villeneuve.

Visions of the fabled 500-channel universe

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission licensed in Sep 1996 23 new TV channels. The channels will usher in digital cable television, which is expected to become available in Canada before Sep 1997.
