Key to the Mideast

Article Abstract:

Speaking after the conclusion of the G8 summit in May 2004 American President Bush said that it is imperative that freedom is spread throughout the Middle East even though there is opposition from countries like Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Egypt has always been a different sort of democracy with President Mobarak raising the bogey of Islamic unrest, real or imaginary, whenever there is some dissent to his policies thus giving him the title of a military strongman and experts feel that unless there is real democracy in that country there is no point in trying to reform the entire region.

Prayers for new life

Article Abstract:

The first new pope of the third millennium will have to guide the Roman Catholic Church, which is an entrenched and ancient institution, through a modern world, which is evolving even faster. The Church will require a pontiff with considerable theological and diplomatic sophistication to deal with many problems facing the Church such as the fundamentalist and moderate forms of Islam, the issue of contraception, the shortage of priests worldwide, and the issue of giving bishops more autonomy.
