Tax reform a worry but little change

Article Abstract:

The May 1999 Bulletin Morgan opinion poll reported 37.5% of Australians support Prime Minister John Howard's coalition with the Democrats. Those polled indicated initiatives regarding tax reform and the Goods and Services Tax (GST) influenced their opinions. Pauline Hanson's One Nation Party, which has the support of many rural Australians, suffered a slight decline in support.

Smack and grab

Article Abstract:

Increasing numbers of burglaries in Australia's cities are being committed by drug addicts. More than 90% of burglars use drugs, and some burglars have to steal to support a $5000 a week drug habit. In Sydney it is common to have bars on windows to prevent entry. Criminology professor Arie Freiberg says making heroin legal and free would cause the burglary market to collapse.
