Latest MyDoom Worm Plagues Search Sites

Article Abstract:

Google and the search engines AltaVista, Yahoo and Lycos were disrupted yesterday by the latest verstion of the computer worm MyDoom, known as MyDoomM. The virus sends queries to search engines to find which addresses are active, then arrives as an attachment that appears to the recipient to be a message from a network administrator reporting an e-mail delivery failure. When opened by a recipient, it creates files enabling it to mail itself to other users, ultimately leaving an open electronic portal to infected computers, which lets the worm authors or other hackers search the data of the infected computer or use it to broadcast spam.
