Lions Gate's Hollywood gamble

Vancouver, Brit Colum-based Lions Gate Entertainment seeks to position its operations as Canada's leading distribution and production company for movies and television. Lions Gate Entertainment's founder and chairman, Frank Giustra, has been involved in many deals since forming Lions Gate Entertainment in 1997. A second C$64-million offering, a C$56-million private placement and the acquisition of North Shore Studios in Vancouver are all part of Lions Gate Entertainment's efforts to outperform Toronto, Ontario-based Alliance Communications, a rival television and motion-picture company.

Investor moves to derail MTS deal: Asks TSX to force shareholder vote

Article Abstract:

The biggest shareholders of Manitoba Telecom Services Inc. (MTS) formally launched a campaign to derail the company's $1.7-billion acquisition of Allstream Inc. through an appeal to the Toronto stock exchange. The Toronto money manager wants the exchange to force the MTS to allow the shareholders to vote on the deal because it had sent out strong signals that it would convert into an income trust-structure.
