Lunch at 9:21, and Students Are the Sardines

Article Abstract:

New York City's John F. Kennedy High School represents a serious problem with overcrowding in the city's high schools. There are 4,590 students for whom cafeteria services have to start at 9:30 AM and run for five hours to accommodate all of the students. Part of the problem is attributed to an overwhelming increase of 7,000 students in ninth-grade classes for which there is no addition school building space. Another factor is the elimination of failing schools that were replaced by smaller ones.
