Many Are Surprised By Bold Decisions Of the Bush F.D.A

Article Abstract:

The FDA under the George W. Bush administration is demonstrating bold and effective policies in taking action for and against pharmaceuticals, herbal supplements and devices that are controversial. FDA Commissioner Mark B. McClellan is given substantial credit for approaching controversial decisions that impact the pharmaceutical industry and the health of the general public. The FDA has decided to ban the sale of ephedra and will consider the return of silicone breast implants only after their safety has been determined. The FDA will evaluate making the morning-after pill Plan B available as an over-the-counter option. As expected, McClellan does not support continued imports of less expansive drugs from Canada.
