The highest-quality cricket bats are made from the cricket willow. No such trees were grown in Australia until after 1902, and the industry flourished until 1956 when it was sold to Slazenger, which felled all but 13 of 5000 trees. This industry has been restored since 1995, and the Australian Critic Bat Willow is offering the opportunity for investment in its trees. Market potential is indicated by the over 50,000 willow clefts imported from England each year to Australia.
