Will dipping markets scare away investors

Article Abstract:

Market analysts are worried that the bull market being experienced by the US stock markets is at an end. A 295-point decline in the Dow Jones industrial average, its lowest since mid-Oct 1999, has left analysts wondering if investors will rush back to buy stocks, a strategy that has resulted in profitability in the 1990s. One of the telling indicators of a not-so-early recovery by the nation's stock market is that, as of Feb 2000, most technology stocks are down by as much as 30% from their prices in Feb 1999.

Should you let sleeping dogs lie?

Article Abstract:

Stock market analysts are in agreement that investing in the Dogs of the Dow Jones industrial average, an investment technique popularized by money manager Michael O'Higgins, has lost much of its allure. The technique, which has outperformed the Dow Jones since 1973, has been losing to the Dow since 1998. Some observers have attributed this development to the advent of companies such as Microsoft that does not offer dividends, a key criterion for being included in the Dogs of the Dow list.

NYSE proposed lower fees for on-line quotes

Article Abstract:

The New York Stock Exchange is planning to reduce the on-line fees of brokerages for real-time stock quotes. The fees have been criticized by cyberbrokerages because their costs would increase significantly which would then be shouldered by their customers. The proposed reduction is from 1 cent to 0.75 cent for each of the initial 20 million quotes downloaded per month. The price would have a ceiling of $1 per customer per month.
