Nasdaq suffers another big hit

The Nasdaq composite dropped 146 points, or 5.1%, to 2735 on Nov 28.2000. The decline was spearheaded by Dell Computer and Amazon.com folowing warnings that PCs and online book sales could drop in the important holiday season. Similarly, the Dow Jones industrials turned negative after Al Gore declared his determination to fight the Florida vote certification on TV. The troubles on Nov 28 were not confined to technology stocks alone. Two retail chains fell after analysts said that Gap and Ann Taylor seem to be having some trouble moving merchandise.

Once-valuable options are now worthless

Article Abstract:

Stock option values are vanishing with the decline in stock prices. The top executives of the largest companies in the US are holding worthless stock options in their own companies. One of the hardest hit with declning stock prices is AT and T CEO C Michael Armstrong whose $26 million in stock options has vanished as the company's stock price plummeted by 61%. Company spokesman David Caouette, however, declared that that people are confident that the stock market will recognize value in the long term.

Wireless trading arrives, but with strings attrached

Article Abstract:

Online brokerages have made it possible for traders to trade anywhere using a host of wireless stock-trading services and technology. The five largest online brokerage firms, namely, Charles Schwab, E-Trade, Fidelity, Ameritrade and TD Waterhouse offer wireless trading services which, when tested, also offered important trade-offs. The most basic service is offered by Fidelity while for the best service, it was a close call between TD Waterhouse and E-Trade.
