Nations Chafe at U.S. Influence Over the Internet

Article Abstract:

The UN's planning for an international Internet conference will exclude any representation from the US-based Internet Corporation for Assigned and Numbers (Icann), a governing body for the Internet. Many countries are beginning to resist US dominance of the Internet and want to organize World Wide Web resources to serve others in the global network. The UN may seek to have greater control over distribution of Internet services and establishment of policies that affect availability of digital technology, e-spam and online pornography.
